Sleepy Baby

The pediatrician says that newborns sleep 18-21 hours a day. It's too bad that Samantha really does all that sleeping DURING THE DAY and mostly wide eyed at night. I get a good 3-hour stretch at night- with the help of Matt and my mom staying up with her while I sleep; then it's downhill from there. She usually just fusses and fusses and doesn't go back to sleep. I don't think she likes to be swaddled, doesn't like the bassinet, doesn't like the sound machine- Errrg. But when morning comes, we get another 3-hour stretch of sleep. Matt started back at work yesterday, so he's been on the couch to get some zzz's, but that doesn't help him too much.  Luckily, it's the weekend and today we are starting to follow the doc's advice to keep her awake and fed during the day, so she's sleepy and full at night. She says to wake her every 2.5 hours to eat and keep her awake some and then there's 5 minutes of tummy time, 5 times a day. She's doing very well today and has been up a lot and feeding like every 1- 1.5 hours. Wish us luck -sigh-

2 Week- Appointment

We had another doctor appointment today. We were excited to find out how much weight Samantha has gained. I know she's gaining weight, just wasn't sure how much. Well, Sammie gained 14 ounces, so she now weighs 7.5 pounds! Now if only she would sleep all night.

A Week of Doctors

Samantha was born 7 pounds and like most newborns, she lost some weight. The hospital doesn't like to see more than a 10% weight loss and we fell at 9%, which was still ify to them. They were hesitant about letting us leave, but we agreed to feed her some formula and follow up with the pediatrician the next day. As anti-formula as I am, I didn't want my baby to be admitted to the hospital for low weight. So, we fed her the formula and brought some home to keep her healthy. We left the hospital and she was 6 pounds/ 6.2 ounces. We followed up with the pediatrician on Tuesday and she gained about 4.4 ounces which is awesome. The formula and the breast milk- that finally came in- worked!

Today I had my 1 week check up for my incision. We brought Sammie to meet the staff at the clinic. The girls just loved her. We all laughed how she just didn't want to come out. Every week when I went in for my appointments, they would all ask... "You're STILL pregnant?" Anyway, my incision looks awesome and the doctor was happy that I'm not in pain or taking pain meds. It feels nice to have those strips removed that were holding me together!

As for Daddy, he had a dentist appointment yesterday. Told you we have all been to the doctors this week :)

Even the grandmas went and got their flu shots this week. We are all good!

Wow! What A Journey!

So, we are all happy and home now. Not getting "much" sleep, but it's more and better than what we were getting in the hospital! and way more comfortable too. Still getting adjusted to a routine.

Samantha Marie arrived October 14, 2010 7 pounds, 19 3/4 inches at 8:13am. We were expecting her to come October 13- my induction date-  but things took a little longer...

I wasn't planning on having any drugs, I was open minded to an epidural, and no c-section! Well, that's not quite how things worked out. We went in on October 13 at 6:00am and started the induction by 7:15am. By 12:30pm I was 3cm and doc broke my water. My doctor said that my labor would be "quick". Then stated that I should deliver by 6:30-7:00pm. Things were going well- no drugs, no epidural- until about 8cm, it got pretty painful. Glad I was the only patient laboring! But I got through it. I got an epidural around 9 1/2cm cause I wasn't dilating more and it was getting past midnight... I was starving and so exhausted. I slept for about 30 minutes to 1 hour to let my body do it's job and when I woke up I was at 10cm ready to push. After about 3 hours of pushing, Samantha still did not want to come out! Around 8:00am I rolled out for a c-section. She graced us at 8:13am October 14th!

.... and I can't believe our parents stuck around the WHOLE time to make sure everything went ok. We love and appreciate the grandparents so much!

The Decision

We went to the doctor today. Not much has changed-dilated to "almost 2cm", so we have decided to just induce tomorrow, October 13th. We need to be at the hospital around 6am, so I guess we should get some rest. But really, who can rest when this is about to happen!? We're are so excited to FINALLY meet our Baby Samantha! It's been way too long!

...And Two Days Past

So, I have been pregnant 40 weeks and 2 days! And to think I was going to deliver a week early, or some people thought I'd have a September baby! ha ha ha ha... Who's laughing now? I'm not really laughing, I'm ready to deliver. Overall I'm just tired of being pregnant and round and not being able to do things as easily. My mom brought up a good point this morning~ Tomorrow is the 5 year anniversary of my dad's death; he is the one that Samantha is named after (Samuel). So, maybe she will be our special gift to arrive tomorrow. Until then, I'll be walking, stretching, bouncing, cleaning and eating some fresh pineapple!

Day Zero

Well, today's my due date, nothing is happening. I think I feel some small stuff going on so I assume it will be real soon; maybe 10-10-10 to celebrate Cousin Sean & Liz's wedding in Connecticut! So, we're still waiting... and waiting... COME ON SAMANTHA!

One Day to Go...

Tomorrow's my due date~ 10-9-10, although not an "expiration date". I'm ready for Samantha to come.... still! My mom asked me when I think she might come; I think never. I just still feel fine and normal. No pain, no contractions and seems like whatever I do to help, doesn't work- walking, spicy food, tea, bouncing, stretching, etc...  We'll see what the coming days bring. Sammie still "sleeps" through the night and late into the morning, but once the day starts she's pretty active in my belly. Man, she likes to stretch that little foot out and how I love to tickle it! She's ready! I'm ready! Bring on the labor pains!!
